Golf in video games has long been dominated by Tiger Woods. Sure there has been the occasional Hot Shots Golf and maybe even an Outlaw Golf for good measure. I’m not above strapping myself into an odd piece of hardware to play a game of golf. But Tiger is the main competitor that any golf game has to go after if they want to make a dent.
Since Tiger has been trending toward the more arcade-y side of things, there is now room for a deliberate game of golf, and that’s where ProStroke Golf on the PSP comes in. This game certainly isn’t for everyone, but then again, neither is golf.
We Love Golf! is also the first online capable golf game for Wii and includes a full array of online features, like “World Play Mode,” where gamers can play random players online and collect medals for their wins. There’s also “Friend Play,” where players may can challange a friend from their Wii friend list. Players can even use their personalized Miis.
For the more statistics-minded person, there is a grand selection of sports management games available on the market. Designed for people who like to act as coach and general manager more than control individual players during a game, this genre has a strong niche among PC games. From the developer of one of the better management games, Total College Basketball, comes Total Pro Golf, where you guide a new player fresh to the tour on his or her path to greatness.
