How to clean your Computer
How to clean your Computer - Rinse the damp cloth in clear hot water and wring it nearly dry. Gently wipe the monitor screen, including all the corners, to remove dust and spots. Then wipe the surrounding areas and framework of the monitor, including the indicator lights that show when the system is operating. Don’t forget the back of the monitor as well. If you have a laptop computer with a top that folds down and closes, wipe the hinges carefully, using a cotton swab for grooves and the latch. Check the latch to see if it is sticky or closes readily.
How to clean your Computer - To clean the hardware of your computer (monitor, keyboard, mouse etc.), firstly make sure everything is disconnected from the mains, then using a microfibre cloth dampened with a white vinegar/water solution and squeezed out well, wipe over. For grimy keyboard keys, a cotton bud moistened with the same mixture, then squeezed out into the microfibre to avoid drips, will get the job done. Do not fear that the vinegar smell will prevail, as it is gone within seconds and takes nasty smells like cigarettes, with it.
How to clean your Computer - The screen
This takes a surprising amount of hammer, first from children who insist on fingering it, or splashes from this and that (shame on you!), or simply electrostatically attracted dust.
Special screen cleaning fluids may safely be used, applying with a clean, soft, lint free cloth, and then polishing gently with a fresh piece. Glass will scratch, so go easy. Luke warm, soapy water might also be tried, but only slightly dampen the cloth, don’t soak everything.
How to clean your Computer - A wet cloth or cotton dabbed in cleaning liquid can be used to wipe the externals. Use very little liquid on your computer since it could seep in and cause damage. It’s best to use a damp cloth since this will ensure the computer dries up faster. Cleaning liquids tend to leave a slightly moist finish, or residue which could attract dust. It is very important NOT to spray liquids directly on the computer!
How to clean your Computer using Vacuum: Some people use this to suck the dust from inside their computer case, however a normal household one will not do. It is best to use a battery operated, handheld vacuum specifically designed for this purpose. Household vacuums cause static electricity which can damage your computer components.
How to clean your Computer with Air compressor: I would choose to use this before anything. Its quick and easy and removes dust properly. Do not go too close to the motherboard though. It will work fine from a distance. It is also best to remove the cpu fan and clean that separately.
Compressed air can: This is a disposable compressed air can that will blow the dust out. Be sure to keep the can upright, otherwise it will leak liquid. Always read the instructions on the can. (Pictured left.)
