More commonly known as a ‘love-bite’, a hickey at the outset can be described as a red welt. It is a form of sexual expression. It is a discoloration of the skin, a bruise, really caused by prolonged suction of the mouth against the skin. However harsh as it sounds, they are broken blood vessels just beneath your skin. In order to give a hickey, put your mouth against the side of their neck, in a kissing shape. You leave your mouth slightly open in the middle, like you’re saying the letter “O” and then suck in. You suck the skin into your mouth, in essence hurting it, and causing the blood vessels to break. This turns that circular area bright red.Hickeys are used as a primitive sort of way amongst the teenage class to mark possession of their loved ones. It naturally fades away after a few days.
How to Give a Hickey
Get the person’s permission. Just because you want to leave your mark of love on your boyfriend or girlfriend doesn’t mean he or she wants to wear an ugly bruise. Ask first, even if your partner has been kissing you, and stop if he or she wants you to (hickeys can cause the receiver discomfort).
Choose the right spot. You can give someone a hickey just about anywhere. The most common place is on the throat, because the capillaries (tiny blood vessels) that are broken during a hickey are pretty close to the surface and because you don’t need to remove any clothing to give a hickey on the neck. These are also the most easily visible, and while visibility is usually intended, you may want to give or receive a hickey elsewhere where it is more easily covered.
Now, lets see how to give a hickey. Place your lips against the skin, leaving your mouth open slightly in the middle. Your lips should be parted as though you are saying the letter ‘O’. Make a good seal with your lips against the skin, and suck it as though you”re trying to suck it into your mouth, for at least 30 seconds. The suction will break the capillaries beneath the skin and cause the characteristic bruising - hickey. Do not bite with teeth. If you use your teeth, you will surely break the skin and cause infection. Remember not to exceed the time if you think the hickey looks lighter, as it will probably get darker or bigger in the hours after you gave it.
Return the favor. The easiest way to let your boyfriend know that you’d appreciate a hickey is to give him one yourself. Make sure to plant one in a highly visible spot, and admire your handiwork when you’re done. He’ll know that you’re O.K. with them and will be much more likely to give you one of your own in the near future.
Tell her what you like. If you want to get a hickey, you have to be vocal. Tell her that you love it when she sucks on your neck, and you wish that she would do it more often. Then the next time you’re making out, guide her to the perfect spot and let her do her magic.
