This article is written in the form of an original-research paper for the journal Sportscience. A few of the requirements for form and content are unique to Sportscience, but most are common to all good scientific journals. How to Write a research Paper- Choose a topic that is broad enough to be interesting but narrow enough to be manageable.Find your sources. Start with three or four, check their bibliographies for additional sources, and repeat the process until you have enough material to work with.

How to Write a research Paper- Begin working on your essay as soon as the assignment is given. Take advantage of the time at your disposal to do your research and writing to meet the due date. If you wait until the last minute, you may have difficulty finding library materials, particularly if other students are researching the same topic, and you may be pressured by other assignments.
How to Write a research Paper- Methods or theory–Fancy mathematical equations with key steps missing to convince the reader that you are way smarter than they are. Always refer to these steps as ‘obvious’ to make sure you sound as condescending as possible.

Make sure you transition from thought to thought and paragraph to paragraph in a fluent fashion. You should never jump from one idea to another without some sort of transition. Check with your teacher to find out what format your paper should be in (double-spaced, 12 point, Times New Roman, for example) and what format your citations should be in (MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.). Consult a guide to learn the specifics of that format. Be sure that you have all required elements including a works cited page, bibliography, or footnotes. Before turning it in, check the paper over at least three times.
How to Write a research Paper- At the beginning of a course, you will probably not know enough about the major scholarly topics that are of most importance in the field, the topics that are most well-covered in the secondary literature or the topics that have already had the life beaten out of them by successive generations of writers. You should begin by doing some general reading in the field. If nothing else, begin with the Encyclopaedia Britannica, a wonderful but sadly neglected resource. Read a few books or articles on topics you find of interest. Follow up the suggested reading on the course syllabus or the footnotes or bibliographies of the texts you are reading for the course. After that, speak with the professor about some of your general ideas and the possible research directions you are thinking about pursuing. And you should do all this as early in the course as possible.
