The one habit that will increase your understanding, enjoyment and quality of lyric writing is time spent in the task itself. The more time that you actually spend typing on the keyboard or writing on a legal pad the more that you will grow as a writer. To begin writing your first song lyric, think of a song as singable poetry. Now, begin writing whatever comes to mind. How to Write a Song- Start with the words first, but it really doesn’t matter. If you want to do music first then skip to number two and come back here after you’re done. If not, pick a topic and start writing. The best thing to do is pick something that you are very passionate about, because the words will come to you easier. Try not to sing the words if you can help it though, just say them. Later you will pick the music.Now pick a key to play your song in. A lot of songs are in G, D, or C but it doesn’t matter. Learn all the chords in the key unless you already know them. You don’t want to be limited to two or three chords.

How To Write a Song- A good song is both emotional and well crafted, if one of those is missing the song isn’t complete. A song can be emotional but poorly crafted, but listeners won’t understand it then. It will sound and feel awkward to them. And by the same token a song can be well crafted but lacking in emotion, and that’s just as bad because then listeners won’t care about it.

How to write a song- If you start out writing songs, don’t try too hard writing lyrics or music that you feel is perfect. Writing perfect lyrics or perfect music by your own standards is impossible. The moment you have created something, you just know you can do better next time.The first times you write a song, and even later on, is more about exploring ideas, finding the ingredients and learning. A phrase from the chorus “hooks” an audience, capturing its attention and usually staying in the memory of listeners after the song lyrics are over. Often the hook is the title of a hit song.

How to write a song- The Chorus is the foundation. You can repeat the same chorus twice, or make the second a variation of the first. To create the verses, you just delve deeper into the idea of the chorus in chronological order. For example the first verse is an introduction to the idea, exploring it, and variations of it. The second verse is the “Body” of the song, just like a letter it is the “meat” of the story. The third verse is a combination of punchline, final points, and sometimes a reflection or reference to ideas in the first verse. This is a basic structure of a song.

How to Write a Song- We also must talk about the bridge. This is different from the verse and the chorus. Verse, chorus, verse, chorus, this is an alternation, but the spicing up in the song is given by the bridge, because it provides a diversion.It is not all about the lyrics. Many times, the bridge gets to have a different rhythm or a different tempo. You heard it in a lot of beautiful songs.
