How to clean aluminum
Aluminum blinds are almost certainly the simplest to clean since they are pretty tough. Almost any soft cloth, dust cloth, or chemically treated dust cloths can get the job done.
It is sensible to vacuum the blinds first before wiping it with cloths. Ensure you fasten the brush head to the vacuum hosepipe. Vacuum softly. Make sure you cover the whole slats, tilt the slats to vacuum the other side. You should vacuum the slats flat for horizontal blinds and upright for vertical blinds.
Once you are done vacuuming, you can use any family cleaning liquid along with a damp cloth to clean the slats. Use either cold or warm water when cleaning the blinds. Never use hot water. Make sure you place some rag cloths under the blinds to keep away from making a mess.
For a more thorough cleaning, you can take the window blinds down, fill your bathtub with warm water and mix it with some liquid washing detergent, then dip the window blinds into the tub. Use a sponge or soft cloth to softly wipe the slats. When you are done, wipe the window blinds with a dry cloth or sponge. Hang it to dry.
For quick onslaught, just use a soft cloth or a feather duster to clear the dusts. One accepted way to speedily clean your blinds is to use a soft cotton sock and a bottle of all-purpose-cleaning spray. Wear the sock on your hand and gently wipe the slats while using the spray. To clean the cord, any stain remover should do the trick.
Use mild a detergent & warm water when likely. Alkalis, even baking soda & particularly stronger alkalis stain aluminum. If trying a stronger cleaner, pre-test on a hidden place to be sure it cleans satisfactorily & does not damage the aluminum. Always follow directions on the product label for aluminum, exactly.
Be careful about using abrasive cleaners (scouring powders, steel wool, abrasive polishes, etc) as they may permanently scratch aluminum; painted or anodized aluminum surfaces will be enduringly damaged. Do not clean aluminum when it is too hot to touch, or if temperatures go below 50ºF.
On outdoor facade, take away bugs, sap, tree seeds, etc. as soon as likely, as they harden w/ exposure to sunlight & heat & are harder to get off. Appropriate solvents will get rid of tar & similar substances. Test solvent first if the aluminum is painted to be sure it doesn\'t also remove the paint. Follow label precautions when using solvents--no spark or flame in the area & have enough airing.
