Getting rid of ticks is somewhat easy to do. I rarely find any ticks inside of my home. I haven\'t found a tick inside of my home is the past 4 years. I find that if you have pets which like to go outside a lot of the time, you will see more ticks inside of your home. If you are more active, such as a jogger or walker, you will also find more ticks inside of your home. This is because ticks are outside, in grassy areas and on trees. Deer hunters will also have a battle with ticks inside of their homes as well.

Ticks can be a big problem. Do not think that ticks are nothing to worry about. Deer ticks actually cause Lyme\'s disease, which will kill animals and you in the long run. Deer ticks are a lot smaller than your average tick and they are common. If you ever find a tick in your home, flush it down the toilet or wash it down the drain in your sink. Ticks are bad news.

Tick Diseases

Ticks are one of the largest carriers of disease in the world, second only to mosquitoes. Many people who become sick after a tick bite have been infected by tick-borne illnesses. Ticks can carry Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever as well as many others. Treatment by antibiotics should be started if there are any signs of a tick borne illness. The types of diseases carried by a tick can vary greatly depending on the geographical area in which the tick bite occurs.

How to get rid of ticks Flea/tick preventative:

The first step in ridding the home and yard of fleas is to apply a flea and tick preventative to all the dogs and cats in the home. If ticks are not a problem in your area then you can get by with flea preventative only, but if you live in an area with a lot of ticks then consider using a flea and tick combo preventative.

Vacuum:

Vacuum thoroughly including under furniture and couch cushions, don\'t forget the baseboards. (You could include this with your spring cleaning.) Once you\'re finished with the vacuum discard the bag immediately. It will be tempting to shampoo the carpets, don\'t. Fleas thrive in humidity, if you shampoo your carpets you\'ll be giving them the environment they love.

Spray home and yard:

You will now be ready to spray your home and yard for fleas and ticks. Concentrate the spray along the baseboards and in and around the furniture. Also, spray thoroughly around where the pets sleep and spend the most time. Don\'t forget to spray around door and window frames, especially if spraying for ticks. Do not use home and yard sprays directly on animals.

Spray, Again: In 3 weeks it will be time to retreat the area. Spraying the home and yard again in 3 weeks will kill any fleas and ticks that were in the larval stage during the initial treatment.

There are several products out there that can be used in and around the home and solve your how to get rid of ticks problem. Read the labels before using to make sure they are animal friendly. Most products will recommend that all animals be removed from the area before using the products.
