alum
glass jar
water
alternatives to alum: rock salt, sugar, salt, epsom salts
Steps to follow to learn how to grow crystals
Pour 1 cup of alum into a 500 ml glass jar. Fill the jar with water.
Allow the water to dissolve the alum; cover up the top of the jar and sit it in a windowsill, in direct sunlight if possible.
Wait for a week or so. The water will continue to evaporate during this time. Keep a watch over it.
Take a look. There will be some crystals around the edges, bottom and top
