How to play dominoes

Dominoes or dominos, generally refers to the individual or collective gaming pieces making up a domino set. Standard domino sets consist of 28 pieces called bones, cards, tiles, stones, spinners or dominoes. Each bone is a rectangular tile with a line dividing its face into two square ends. You must know before going for how to play dominoes

Each end is marked with a number of black spots or is blank. The spots are generally arranged as they are on six-sided dice. Standard domino sets have ends ranging from zero spots to six spots (double six set), but specialized sets might range from zero to nine (double nine set), zero to twelve (double twelve set), zero to fifteen (double fifteen set), or zero to eighteen (double eighteen set). If you want to know how to play dominos, we will use Double Six Set in this article.

Starting:

Put the dominoes face down on the table and mix them up – this is the first step towards how to play dominoes. Each player takes 6 dominos; for a game with more than 3 players, each player should draw 3 dominos.

The remaining dominoes are left on the table (these are the "sleeping" dominoes). Don\'t let the other players see your dominos. The youngest player goes first (or you can go in alphabetical or reverse alphabetical order). In traditional dominoes, the person with the highest double starts.

Shuffling the Dominoes

Shuffle the Dominoes in the circular motion to form a Bone-yard

Before a game can begin the dominoes must be shuffled. The tiles must all be turned face down on the table, then moved around in a random motion, being careful not to flip any over. The collection of shuffled tiles is known as the "bone yard".

Beginning a Game

You must decide who is to play first. Either player pick a tile from the bone yard, and the "heaviest" tile wins the right to go first. Or, the players draw 7 tiles and the holder of the heaviest tile starts.

Playing Dominoes

Taking out Dominoes of Box.

Take seven dominoes from the bone yard, and stand them on the table facing you, so you know what you have, but no other player does. In most games, only the open ends of the layout of dominoes can be used, an end is open when it has no other tile connected to it.

1. When playing a double, it can be placed crossways straddling the tile it is connected to. Usually, additional tiles can only be placed against the long side of the tile, although in some variations of the game of dominoes, all four sides of the double are considered open, allowing dominoes to be connected in all four directions – this you should know if you want to pave way towards how to play dominos.

2. A tile can only be placed if you have a tile in your hand that corresponds to a tile on the table. But the exception is a tile with no pips. This can be edited onto any other tile. If a player cannot make a move, then they must take a tile from the bone yard until it is empty. Once it is empty then they must pass to allow the other players to go.
