Introduction

Rust is tough, but you can get rid of it on most surfaces. If you have in mind that how to remove rust from forming you should keep metals dry and minimize their exposure to humidity and water. Here\'s an overview of your options for treating and preventing rust on most common objects.

Simple steps on how to remove rust


Step 1: Put on rubber gloves.

Step 2: Treat the affected material (metal or otherwise) with a rust-removing agent that contains oxalic acid, taking care to follow instructions on the product label.

Step 3: Treat severe rust stains (especially in toilet bowls) with a pumice scouring pad along with the rust-removing agent.

Step 4: Prevent indoor metal items from rusting by keeping their surfaces dry, dusting regularly and wiping down occasionally with a damp cloth. Dry immediately after wiping down.

Step 5:
Keep outdoor wrought-iron structures rust-free by removing existing rust with a wire brush, some sandpaper or a sandblaster. Then go over bare spots with rust-inhibiting primer and paint the surface with rust-resistant metal paint.

1.    Find some light oil, fine steel wool, and a suitable work surface that won\'t scratch up your gun.

2.    Check if the gun is loaded; if so, unload it.

3.    Apply some oil on and around any rust spots.

5.    Wipe with an old rag or paper towel occasionally to remove rusty oil and to inspect the surface.

6.    Repeat as necessary until no rust is left.

7.    Apply a light, even coat of oil to all steel surfaces.

Tips:

1.    Always keep guns pointed in a safe direction.

2.    Never use abrasives, like sandpaper or emery cloth, on your gun.

3.    After removing rust, keep that spot oiled and keep your eye on it. It will often be the first spot to rust in the future.
