How long does it take to become a pharmacist

How long does it take to become a pharmacist? Have you ever gotten a prescription filled at your local drug store and wondered what takes the person in the pharmacy so long to fill your prescription. If you have, maybe you\'ve wondered how to become that person. The person behind the counter in your local drug store, typically wearing a white coat, and a name tag that prominently shows pharmacist above his or her name is the pharmacist.

The journey from casual spectator to pharmacist may prove hard; though, it can be very rewarding. Pharmacy is the science of drugs, clearly stated. A person wishing to become a pharmacist should have good basic math and science skills after leaving high school. Upon entering college there are two options, depending on your choice of college or university. If the college you\'ve decided to attend has a college of pharmacy, then you should be enrolled in that university\'s Pre-Pharmacy prospectus each semester for a total 2 years. If you are currently enrolled at a college or university that does not have a college of pharmacy, it would be in your best interest to major in Biology or Chemistry, which will provide a good backdrop for the necessary classes to complete your pharmacy degree.

But here the question still arises that how long does it take to become a pharmacist. Upon completion of either a four year degree or a two year pre-pharmacy pre-requisite curriculum, a application to the college of pharmacy of your choice should be submitted. It takes four years to complete the pharmacy school curriculum, and upon completion one will be given a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree.

Though, this may sound like the end of the journey, completion of your pharmacy degree is only the beginning! To practice pharmacy a graduate of a credited college of pharmacy must pass a national board examination (an assessment of your knowledge base) and a state law test (an assessment of your knowledge of laws applicable to pharmacists) in his or her state. Subsequent successful completion of both exams, a pharmacist\'s license is awarded, and this person may now put on a white jacket and stare maddening at customer\'s who wonder what is taking so long for a prescription!

So now you have leaned that actually how long does it take to become a pharmacist?
